If you’re reading this blog, you’re probably a bookworm. And if you’re a bookworm, you’ve got books that need wrangling. Lucky for you, I have a cheap and easy tutorial on how to create your own Gyrffindor Lion Bookends to keep your books upright and gorgeous! Not a Harry Potter fan? You can call them Lannister Lion bookends, or Narnian bookends, or simply just lion bookends. The lions can also be substituted for other animals.
To begin, gather your materials. You will need:
- 2 plastic animals (I went to the Dollar Tree)
- 2 pieces of wood, brick, or stone (I used Hobby Lobby)
- Permanent Glue
- Spray Paint in your choice of color
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Newspaper
- Optional: paintbrushes and acrylic paint and mod podge for extra gloss
I used pieces of wood that were too flimsy to be used on their own, so I had to start by gluing two pieces of wood together with superglue. If you use stone, brick, or heavier wood you can skip this step.
Gauge where you would like the lion to sit on the bookend. Then use tape and pencil to mark both bookends on the same spots.
Take your permanent glue and your lion and put dabs on glue under the lion’s paws.
Lightly press the lion down and then remove your hands. Let dry.
Take the bookends outdoors and spray paint. Let Dry.
Optional step: paint your bookends with Deathly Hallows symbols, Gryffindor crests, lightning bolt scars, whatever addition you would like! I’m not very artistic so I left mine as gold.
You can turn your lions (or other animals) in any direction you prefer.
Use on your shelves and enjoy! Subscribe to my blog to receive notifications on every new post.
