A Harry Potter Reread: The Half-Blood Prince Review and Deathly Hallows Preview

In my wrap-up post of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince let’s talk favorite and least favorite moments, and what we expect out of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)

I’m going to be honest…I didn’t enjoy recapping Half-Blood Prince as much as I enjoyed the other books, but I knew that was always going to be true. It’s my least favorite book by far in the series, and I felt some guilt ripping on a book I know many (including one of my bffs!) absolutely adores. But man did this book let me down on first read, and on subsequent rereads.

It’s not that a lot doesn’t happen, because I often love middle books in a series, and I enjoyed how long Order of the Phoenix is, and I’m one of those weirdos who actually likes the camping in Deathly Hallows (I know I’m a freak) but it’s more the wheel spinning. We know Draco is up to no good almost the whole dang book, yet so much of the focus is on Harry obsessing over it. Tonks and her mousy hair reveal was a letdown. A decent portion of the Riddle backstory was a cliche. The romances in this book (sans Bill and Fleur, which I enjoy) gave me the hives. the CHEST MONSTER. Hermione and Ron were both kind of insufferable. But this is still a Harry Potter book (cough Cursed Child need not apply to this designation) so therefore I still love this book with quite a bit of my heart. So let’s talk about that instead!

We got a fun look at the Muggle Prime Minister.

Luna Lovegood was my eternal weirdo queen.

Neville was a baller friend as always.

Harry telling a “cool girl” to get stuffed and Luna and Neville are his BFF’s.

Malfoy actually becoming interesting.

Harry takes Luna to the Christmas party as his wacky friend date.

We finally get in Slughorn a non evil Slytherin, which I’ve been begging for!

Harry gets high on golden juice and buries a giant spider.

Harry burns Rufus Scrimgeour and Snape with some of his finest burns.

Basically, Harry is amazing this book and movie and I love my sassy King forever and ever, amen.

Now: onto a book that has problems and yes I will talk about them, alongside my attempted defense of endless camping!
