10 Things for a Harry Potter Party
With July 31st right around the corner, it’s almost time for an annual Harry Potter Birthday Party!
If you’re a librarian, I highly recommend throwing a Happy Birthday Harry Potter Party in July. I’ve got a whole blog full of tips on how! Every time I have thrown this program, I have had such monumental turnout that I run out of supplies midway through the event.
If you’re a parent, kid, or just a general Harry Potter lover, throw yourself or others a fun summer party to get out of the heat. If you’re having an actual birthday party, here’s a list of my ten suggested gifts for a Harry Potter fan.
Hit up my amazon storefront for all of my ideas on books, Harry Potter, Harry Potter Christmas, and more for even more ideas.
Food
It is always imperative to have food at a Harry Potter event. Keep it simple by buying HP food merchandise and pizza, or make your own chocolate frogs, Bertie Bott’s boxes, and chocolate wands. Make it extra fancy by using the Harry Potter cookbook to make themed items from the books/movies. Be careful on DIY Butterbeer, as it can often taste disgusting in my experience.
Games
I highly recommend putting out Harry Potter board games, or even setting up a Lego Harry Potter station or a Hogwarts Legacy game. If you don’t have that kind of cash, print out some free printable games and coloring pages for guests.
Movies
Whenever I throw a Harry Potter event I like to have one of the movies playing in the background for anyone who is not in the mood for socializing. It adds ambient noise to an event and prevents awkward silences, and they can make for fun drinking games as well.
Decor
It’s so much more fun if you decorate for your Harry Potter Party! I would print out HP images poster sized and hang them around the space I had, but if you’re more artistic than me, create your own Ollivander’s or Honeydukes or Potions room or whatever you can think up!
Crafts
I highly recommend Harry Potter crafts. Even adults absolutely love them. Here’s a page I have of suggested craft ideas, including spooky books, floating candles, etc.
Contests
I’ve thrown a Triwizard Tournament and I’ve also done a Horcrux Hunt (Scavenger Hunt.) Also a classic: a trivia contest for prizes! All three went over very well. Don’t underestimate how much people love contests.
Party Favors
Give your guests something to take home, whether it’s fun little pins or bags or candy or wands or whatever!
Costumes
Always encourage your guests to wear costumes! Bonus points if you can provide part of the costumes via crafts or supplies.
Wands
Buy or create your own wands! It’s super easy to DIY a wand out of a chopstick, hot glue, hot glue gun, and paint.
Books
Have the books out for anyone who wants to read them! Start a book club, read fanfic together, cook out of a Harry Potter cookbook, the ideas are endless.
