Chapter 11: Quidditch
In chapter eleven of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Potz and the Weasel become PotzWeazGrang or the trio, and combined their powers can rule the galaxy.
…or they make a more enjoyable group of friends together as a trio, then a duo, either one. Harry discovers Snape’s been bitten by Fluffy, in part 1 of 10,714 of Snape’s Acting Suspicious: It’s Him He Did It: An Ongoing Anthology.
(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)
Harry plays his first game of Quidditch, and I for one was delighted. Apparently lots of readers are not fans of Quidditch but I’ve always enjoyed the Quidditch scenes. For one, Wood is generally acting deranged about winning and two, Lee Jordan’s golden commentary that he somehow gets away with.
Harry’s broom acts up and almost throws him off, and Hagrid proves his honest devotion to Harry for about the fourth time out of a million when he’s the first to notice something is wrong with Harry’s broom. Part 2 of Snape Did It, Right? An Anthology commences, with Snape muttering a jinx while staring at Harry’s broom, and Hermione chooses this opportune moment to go from uptight rule breaker to slight truth bender to veer wildly into “now I’m attacking a teacher and setting him on fire” to get Snape to stop.
Meanwhile, Marcus Flint hilariously grabs the Quaffle and scores five times while everyone else worries over an eleven year old kid’s life. Hermione knocks Quirrelldemort over (Voldemort: “Dammit Quirrell at least fall on Dumbledore! How many times do I have to tell you!“) and sets Snape aflame to save Harry, who practically swallows the snitch whole and wins the game. After the match Hagrid reveals he’s the proud owner of Fluffy
and that Fluffy’s guarding something for Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel.
