Chapter Two: The Scar
In chapter two of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Harry writes Sirius about his scar, and…let’s be honest not a lot else happens.
(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)
Instead of dreaming his teeth are falling out or that he’s naked in class while Snape tells him to turn to page 394, our boy Harry is having prophetic dreams about monster baby Voldemort killing innocent Muggles and plotting his death. You know, normal teenage boy stuff.
Harry’s rightfully disturbed, and spends way too long thinking of who he can tell about this strange dream before he realizes he finally has an adult in his life who cares about him and writes Sirius, the new father he hasn’t had for the past thirteen years. I’m sorry. It’s just…
And then I think about how Sirius hasn’t had anyone to write anything nice to him for thirteen years and
Harry takes a very long time attempting to write a letter that makes him sound nonchalant about his scar hurting when it has only ever bothered him when Voldemort is near, and bless his little heart for being so naive he thought he could deceive an adult man, one whom we know was thought of as extraordinarily clever. Add on the fact that we find out that Harry has been his King Sass persona all summer, using Sirius to torment the Dursley’s, and really, how can Harry not be your favorite character?
