Chapter Twelve: Magic is Might
In chapter twelve of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows the trio transform into a series of Ministry employees and PINK ALERT it’s KITTEN HITLER HERSELF, UMBRIDGE! Grab a centaur and protect yourself, everyone!
(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)
Kreacher is now in love with Harry being his master and has transformed Number Twelve while our trio spends all their time staking out the Ministry for their operation Umbridge plan that is…how shall we put this…overly complicated?
Snape’s been made headmaster and who in the hell is still sending their kids to Hogwarts now? Why is anyone staying in the country if they’re not actively part of the resistance against Voldemort? I don’t know about you, but my ass would be gone if I was just an innocent bystander.
Although speaking of fleeing the country, Voldz is off killing innocent families in the pursuit of Gregorovitch while Hermz nags Harry some more about the connection still existing and he needs to get onto working on his Occlumency skills. Hermione I feel you my darling but that ship has really sailed, hit an iceberg shaped like Snape’s nose, and sunk at this point.
The trio knock out Mafalda Hopkirk and transform Hermione into her and maybe I’d feel bad for old Mafalda if we didn’t find out later that she’s actively helping Umbridge and Yaxley imprison Muggle-borns. Oh, also that time she expelled Harry for saving Dudley from a dementor. Ron turns into Reg Cattermole, an employee who really, really loves his job which should’ve definitely clued our trio in more that something is up, because almost no adult I know loves their job this much, and Harry turns into a rando dude who is maybe a Death Eater but is definitely a giant scary jerk face who’s at least in concert with Death Eaters.
It’s that time again to turn on a tune and sing along to this ditty about the banality of evil and the Ministry employees, who maybe all lost the will to live when it turns out they need to flush themselves into a toilet to enter their job every day.
We find out immediately that Reg Cattermole has a Muggle-born wife in for questioning by Yaxley, who is easily one of the most intimidating movie Death Eaters and then…deep breaths everyone…clutch something cute and cuddly…NO DROP THAT KITTEN PLATE IT IS A TRAP it’s the she-demon herself, Umbridge, coming to wreck our lives.
