In my wrap-up post of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.let’s talk favorite and least favorite moments and what Harry Potter has meant to me.
(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)
That’s it, the absolute last wrap-up post I’ll be doing on this reread (unless everyone wants me to rip The Cursed Child to shreds.) Let’s get to it!
In Deathly Hallows, we got the awesomeness of:
Dobby’s heroic and sob inducing sacrifice
McGonagall being a billion percent badass
Neville finally getting his due as a true Gryffindor
The creepiness of chapter one and that snake incident in “Godric’s Hollow”
The spectacle that was the 7 potters
and Kreacher’s tale about the heroic Regulus Black.
We also got, alas, endless camping, an overdramatic finale that involved our hero and our villain circling each other and monolugeing in turn for a solid forty-five minutes while everyone else started gormlessly, a rushed ending, no good young Slytherins, a stunning lack of CHARLIE WEASLEY, Remus being a jerky jerkface, Ron’s assitude, Draco’s anticlimactic non redemption, Death Eaters being cliched morons, a lack of magical wizard school shenanigans, and THAT EPILOGUE.
But overall, I left Harry Potter feeling sad, fulfilled, happy, and grateful. Sad because it was over. Grateful for everything the series had provided to me, a young teenager who was going through some rough shit and had some books that I could escape to and make everything okay. It’s the fact that I first read the books in such a dark time in my own life that left me with such a profound impact on me. Not just the escapism, but the underlying messages of good versus evil, the ways in which we can fight for the right things, no matter how scared we might be. And it’s those lessons I take with me as an adult. I continue to immerse myself in the world of Harry Potter through rereads and rewatches, fanfiction, fan websites, music, theme parks, cons, and meeting new Harry Potter fans because why not? It’s a brilliant story that means so much to so many people, and that’s the kind of magic that is priceless.
Thank you for joining me on this reread.
