A Harry Potter Reread: The Goblet of Fire Review and Order of the Phoenix Preview

In my wrap-up post of  Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, let’s talk favorite and least favorite moments, and what we expect out of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

(Please be advised that this is a reread and I will be discussing book and movie spoilers.)

That’s a wrap on Goblet of Fire, the first book in the series to double as a doorstop, but not the last. This book was not only the first incredibly long Harry Potter book, but it also broke fresh ground by starting out so differently and turning the tone of the entire series darker.

I might love Chamber of Secrets the most for nostalgia reasons, and I might find Prisoner of Azkaban my favorite for overall reasons, but Goblet of Fire has always been up there as one of my favorite novels in the series. Yes, even with my complaints about Barty and Voldy’s plot making no sense!

Why? Let’s get to it!

The Riddle backstory, and the tragedy of Frank Bryce.

The dark, ominous turn the story takes.

The return of DOBBY!

Sirius is a great godfather, MOVIES.

Barty is an evil genius, maybe better at lying then Tom Riddle. YEAH I SAID IT.

Hermione’s glow-up at the ball, which is done SO MUCH BETTER in the books. And–Hermione! Stop dancing with Dean! Rita’s going to write an awful article.

NO HERMIONE. NO THAT IS WORSE.

Speaking of Rita, I hate her, but she’s an amazing villain.

The twins start the greatest business of all time, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes.

Viktor Krum is actually kind of awesome.

Cedric Diggory didn’t deserve to die!

Malfoy gets turned into a ferret, and discovers the joy of a good button maker.

and  Harry does my favorite thing and kills me dead with his sass.

I’m amped to re-read Order of the Phoenix with you. I’ve discussed before how I read the first four Harry Potter books long ago in a binge-read, and I don’t have many memories of reading them the first time. Well, not so with Order of the Phoenix! I have clear, distinct memories of getting this book (thanks, dad!) and reading it for the first time, and I’m thrilled to discuss them. Hopefully you’ll re-read it with me!
